A transformative redesign of PDP’s Afterglow LVL5+ Headset into an object resembling equipment from the Mass Effect universe. (Now sold as Afterglow LVL6+).
Concepts focused on incorporating various design elements of the game’s prominently featured N7 armor while maintaining compatibility with components of the existing PDP Afterglow LVL 5+ headset.
To achieve the detail and accuracy of this 1:1 scale replica I provided detailed instructions on deco, color, material, and finish, and reviewed samples at each stage of production.

Designed with a richer finish and more serious tone to appeal to a core demographic of fans in their twenties. Each character is accented with traditional Japanese motifs of its elemental type.
To imbue the inherent cuteness of Pokémon with a certain streetwise toughness and attitude I looked to youth subcultures like punks, bikers, teddy boys, rudies, and psychobillies.
Patterns of shifting light are created using a technique inspired by luxury textiles like silk damask.
The design follows established brand guidelines to maintain cohesion with the other products in this line of professional gaming equipment: PDP’s Pro AF headset and Pro FS fightstick.
PDP’s line of collectible figures brings favorite heroes and villains to life with illuminated artwork. I worked on the initial concept and specifications, and created pixel characters for the lifespan of the project.
For these more complex characters I used a different approach to give them greater detail and veracity while retaining the same small size and low resolution of standard Pixel Pals.
This set of accessories for the Nintendo DS employs a restricted palette to give these legendary Pokémon the dramatic flair of Japanese lacquerware.
